Cumberland River
The stunning Cumberland River and Cascades is just a few kilometres south of Lorne and is a popular camping and picnic ground. The river follows the base of the majestic cliffs with grassy lawns and cypress treens on the opposite side until, at its mouth, there is a small beach where it flows into the ocean. On calmer days there is usually safe swimmimg and a natural pool at the mouth of the river. One of the secrets of this location is the little known Cumberland Cave which is approximately 200 metres west of the river mouth along the beach. If you head approximately 3km's upstream from the camping ground, over a series of rocks you will reach the cascades known as Cumberland Falls. |
