Apollo Bay
Apollo Bay is a coastal town in southwestern Victoria, Australia. It is situated on the eastern side of Cape Otway, along the edge of the Barham River and the Great Ocean Road in the Colac Otway Shire. Apollo Bay was settled around 1840 as a whaling station which was quickly overtaken by logging and then farming, though today it is often said there are now more potters, painters and musicians in the hills of Apollo BAy than farmers. Apollo Bay now makes an income from tourism and fishing. It is also host to the annual Apollo Bay Music Festival and the Great Ocean Sports Festival. There are many attractions around Apollo Bay including the Aire Valley Reserve, Bass Strait Shell Museum, Beauchamp Falls, Hopetoun Falls, Marriners Falls, Historical Museum, Lookouts, Otway National Park and Turtons Track. |
