  St Georges Presbyterian Manse

Geelong Historic Buildings

St George`s Presbyterian Manse in Geelong is an interesting example of the picturesque Gothic Villa mode, popular in the mid nineteenth century and modestly adorned to complement the architecture of the adjacent early English Gothic Church of 1861 by Nathaniel Billing. The Church and Manse, both substantial structures, illustrate the wealth of many of the foundation patrons of this congregation as well as being in a distinctive and harmonious architectural relationship

Tenders for St George`s Presbyterian manse in Latrobe Terrace, Geelong, were advertised in June 1864. Well known ecclesiastical architect, Nathaniel Billing, designed this substantial two storey picturesque Gothic villa and construction, by Geelong builder Halpin, was undertaken using squared random coursed basalt with freestone dressings and decorated timber barges to complement the adjacent Church of 1861, also by Billing
