Golden Age Hotel Geelong Historic Buildings
The Golden Age Hotel is a three storey brick building on bluestone foundations with extensive cellars. John Young, architect, called tenders in August 1854 on behalf of the original licensees, Ryan and Nailing. This corner hotel is built of brick with highly original gauged brickwork ornamentation forming a machicolated parapet, perforated spandrels, pilasters and window entablature An outstanding example of the work of John Young, a pioneer Geelong architect whose innovative designs and original brickwork details clearly define his work from contemporary nineteenth century architectural traditions. The Golden Age Hotel has been integrally associated with the social history of Geelong since 1854 and was an important meeting place in the early years of settlement on the Corio Bay.
