Queenscliffe

Maritime Museum

The Queenscliff (Queenscliffe*) Lifeboat Preservation Society began in 1980 and the Maritime Museum in 1986 primarily displaying the last Queenscliff lifeboat. Today the Queenscliff Maritime Museum has an extensive display of historic maritime items representing Queenscliffe and Port Phillip.

On display you will find displays including model ships, lighthouses, hydrographic model of the rip, chinese fisherman, shipwrecks and artifacts, lifesaving equipment, the lifeboat 'Queenscliffe', historic postcards, various heritage pictures and other items.

In July 2005 a temperature and humidity controlled archival repository was added and is used to store items such as maps, photographs, paintings, charts and other maritime items that would otherwise deteriorate with natural elements

The museum is run by a Committee of Management with the support of volunteers and and Administration Officer. The volunteers of the museum provide a dedicated service and provide guided tours of the Museum and the Point Lonsdale Lighthouse as well as maintaining the library, answering historical enquiries, property maintenance and staffing the facility

The Museum is well equiped and facilitated with wheelchair access; toilets; parking for coaches and cars and is just a short walk to the ferry terminal; Railway Station and Fort Queenscliff.
